If you want to publish open access, many journals will ask the author to pay an APC, or article processing cost.
The Library does not have a general fund to cover article processing costs.
We currently have agreements with the following journals:
Association for Computing Machinery
If your article meets the following criteria, you can publish in the Association for Computing Machinery for free:
Company of Biologists journals
You can publish open access articles with no APCs in the journals Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open. You can find more information at the Company of Biologists' Guide for Authors.
BMJ Case Reports
If your article meets certain criteria, you can publish in BMJ Case Reports at a reduced cost. Please reach out to the Library if you are interested in publishing with BMJ Case Reports. Please note that there is an additional fee for publishing open access.
Elsevier
Receive a 10% discount on APCs for select fully gold open-access Elsevier journals. You can learn more about the agreement between Colorado Alliance and Elsevier, and search for participating journals at the Colorado Alliance.
Other Journals
If you want to publish in a journal and do not have access to grant other funds to cover the APC, you should begin by asking the journal for a waiver or discount on the APC. You should also check with either your faculty mentor (if student) or department chair (if staff or faculty) to see if funds are available.
