Article processing costs

If you want to publish open access, many journals will ask the author to pay an article processing cost (APC).

The Library does not have a general fund to cover article processing costs.

We currently have agreements with the following journals:

Your article must meet the following criteria:

  • Original research to be published in the ACM Digital Library

    • This includes ACM's entire publication portfolio of journals, magazines, conference proceedings, newsletters, websites, and multimedia files, whose contents are listed at The ACM Full-Text Collection. ACM books are excluded from the agreement

  • Have a corresponding author affiliated with CU Anschutz

    • To fulfill this requirement, you must use your CU Anschutz institutional email when submitting your work to ACM.

  • Accepted for publication between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2025

Select Company of Biologists journals

Waived

You can publish open access articles with no APCs in the journals Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open. You can find more information at the Company of Biologists' Guide for Authors.

Select Elsevier Journals

You can learn more about the agreement between Colorado Alliance and Elsevier, and search for participating journals at the Colorado Alliance.

Please use your @cuanschutz.edu email to expedite approvals.

Select Sage journals

10% off

You can learn more about the agreement between Colorado Alliance and Sage, and download a .xlsx file of participating journals.

Select IOP journals

Use the ChronosHub Journal Finder, choose "Select Institution," and enter University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus to see what journals are covered by our agreement.

Other Journals

If you want to publish in a journal and do not have access to grant other funds to cover the APC, you should begin by asking the journal for a waiver or discount on the APC. You should also check with either your faculty mentor (if student) or department chair (if staff or faculty) to see if funds are available.

BMJ Case Studies Fellowship Code

In addition to agreements regarding article processing charges, the Library also has a BMJ Fellowship code for BMJ Case Studies only. This code allows authors to submit articles to BMJ Case Studies without paying a fellowship free. This code does not impact the optional open access fee, which authors may choose to pay separately.
