New NIH Data Management Requirements

The new NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) policy is in effect. The purpose of the policy is to promote the sharing of scientific data. Under the DMS policy, NIH expects that investigators will create data plans with the following elements:

  • Data type
  • Related tools, software, and/or code
  • Standards
  • Data preservation, access, and timelines
  • Access, distribution, or reuse considerations
  • Oversight of data management and sharing

Where should I publish?

Publishing is how scholars speak to one another, and circulate research and data. However, as time goes on, there are more and more options for where to publish, and how. This guide presents some best practices and choices for the dissemination of different types of research outputs such as:
