This 2019 report looks at the barriers and challenges lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans often face in achieving a healthy life. While LGBTQ individuals have many of the same concerns as the general population, like affordability, access, and quality of care, they also face several unique challenges that affect the ability to live healthy and affirmed lives. Lack of understanding, discrimination, stigma, violence, higher rates of health problems,
as well as other barriers, can compound and produce worse health outcomes.

The 2023 Movement Advancement Project (MAP) tracks over 50 different LGBTQ-related laws and policies. This map shows the overall policy tallies (as distinct from sexual orientation or gender identity tallies) for Colorado, though you can also see what is happening across the U.S, the District of Columbia, and the five populated U.S. territories. The information provides the state’s policy tally scores the laws and policies within each state that shape LGBTQ people's lives, experiences, and equality. The major categories of laws covered by the policy tally include: Relationship & Parental Recognition, Nondiscrimination, Religious Exemptions, LGBTQ Youth, Health Care, Criminal Justice, and Identity Documents.

This 2021 report informs mental health organizations and providers, community organizations and other nonprofits, the general population, and policymakers on actionable steps to provide more equitable behavioral health resources for LGBTQ+ individuals in the state. The quantitative and qualitative data collected help contextualize the needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and can be used to fill gaps in programming, policy, and services.

This 2023 report from the Colorado Health Institute. Colorado has some of the country’s strongest legal and policy protections for LGBTQ+ individuals, according to a 2020 report by the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBTQ-advocacy organization. But there is an opportunity to fortify social supports and improve access to mental and behavioral health services.
